21001. Barry Callebaut announces opening of its new chocolate factory in Baramati, India
- The Barry Callebaut Group, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, announced the official opening of its new chocolate and compound manufacturing facility, located in Baramati, India.
- Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of the Barry Callebaut Group, said: "The new factory in Baramati celebrates India's rich chocolate heritage and marks a new milestone in Barry Callebaut's history of direct investment in India.
- Once fully operational, the 20,000 square meter facility will employ between 100 to 120 people, thus creating new skilled jobs, mainly in engineering and production. These steps will help Barry Callebaut to achieve its ambition of manufacturing the finest "Make in India" chocolate.
21002. Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India bags order worth Rs 160 crore to supply transformers to Indian Railways
- Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways to use transformers by Hitachi ABB Power Grids! An order worth Rs 160 crore has been bagged by technology major Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India to supply transformers to Indian Railways.
- The order has been won by Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India, which is listed on the stock exchanges as ABB Power Products and Systems India Limited company, from the Government of India’s Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) and the Central Organization for Rail Electrification (CORE), to power electric freight locos for the national transporter, according to a PTI report. Indian Railways’ CLW is an electric locomotive manufacturer.
- The national transporter is aiming to create a future-ready rail system, bringing down logistics costs for the industry as well as supporting the Modi government’s Make in India’ initiative. This plan aligns with the Railway Ministry’s goal of achieving 100% electrification of Indian Railways by December 2023 and making the rail network a net-zero carbon emitter by the year 2030.

- Swapnil Gawande, founder of Deesha International Eye Banks, was all of 10 when he lost his close friend Abdul to dengue in 2006. Swapnil always wished to find a way to help Abdul see, who was born visually impaired. But the tragic incident stirred something in him and Swapnil started paying more attention to news regarding eye donations.
- The 29-year-old now runs five eye banks across Maharashtra. His organisation has encouraged more than 14 lakh people for eye donations. The eye banks were launched after the amendment of the Transplantation of Human Organ Act (THO) in 2011 to prohibit the sale of organs in 2009.
- The efforts of establishing infrastructure is worthless if people are not sensitised properly, says Swapnil. So he has formed a team of 2,700 volunteers, mostly aged between 20-30 to spread awareness in rural and tribal belts of the state.
21004. India to supply locomotives, technology to Bangladesh railways
- India is ready to supply locomotives and passenger carriages and transfer technology for railway signalling systems to Bangladesh as part of ongoing cooperation between the two sides to improve connectivity.
- The Indian side expressed its readiness to supply locomotives, diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) train, mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) train as well as passenger carriages and transfer of technology for railway signalling system to Bangladesh.
- India and Bangladesh are currently working to restore seven rail links that were operational till 1965, and five have already been made operational. India provided 10 diesel locomotives to Bangladesh as grant assistance in 2020.

21005. Indian jugaad: Man turns car into helicopter, rents it for weddings
- a bright-minded mechanic cum artist from Bagaha, Bihar thought of a way around the situation and made the decision to turn a Tata Nano into a helicopter so that other grooms can hire for their weddings.
- Guddu Sharma decided to spend Rs 2 lakh of his own money to turn the Nano into a helicopter, he apparently used certain sensors to prepare the car.
- This invention is a smash hit already as 19 people have already booked the service. The helicopter is available for hire at a price of Rs15,000.
21006. Cuba’s interest in developing software with Indian companies flourishes
- Cuban software industry executives appreciate the capabilities deployed by India in this sector, which has been experiencing a significant increase in the development of computer applications and services
- there have been two-way exchanges between the two countries and Cuban representatives have been present at the “IndiaSoft” event, which is held periodically and in which specialists from the island appreciated the diversity of high-quality modern products promoted by Indian entities.
- The event in Hyderabad, India’s fourth largest city, served as a venue for the promotion of the electronics, computer and IT applications and services sector with the attendance of more than 200 Indian companies and around 400 service providers from 75 nations from several continents.

21008. India's export in Jan jumps 25% to $34.5 bn; here's what experts say this means
- India's exports in January 2022 rose 25.28 per cent to $34.50 billion from $27.54 billion in January 2021. In December 2021, merchandise exports stood at $37.8 billion, the highest-ever for any month, data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has showed
- India's overall exports in January 2022 stood at $61.41 billion, witnessing a growth of 36.76 per cent, in comparison to the same period last year.
- The government had set the export target of $400 in FY22 and is expecting exports to reach $500 billion in FY23. As far as the long term goal is concerned, the government has set an ambitious target of taking overall exports to the $2 trillion level; of which $1 trillion will come from merchandise exports and $ 1 trillion from services exports.

21009. GOOGLE TO START MANUFACTURING PIXEL PHONES FOR DOMESTIC AND EXPORT NEEDS IN INDIA: REPORT
- In a bid to focus more on India with its new Pixel phones, Google is planning to begin manufacturing the smartphones in the country.
- The units are likely to manufacture the devices for both domestic and export needs. Speaking to Economic Times, a senior Google executive said that the tech giant was going to come strong with the launch strategy of the successor for Pixel 4a (Review) in India.
- They will be importing a large quantity of the devices so that the inventory is fully loaded post-release.
21010. Guwahati To Have Second Medical College With 100 MBBS Seats, Foundation Stone Laid
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday laid the foundation stone of a new medical college in Guwahati.It will be constructed at an expenditure of nearly Rs 1,000 crore.
- The proposed Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital will have two campuses, one at Panbazar and the other at Kalapahar, The Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) at Panbazar and the Kalapahar TB Hospital will be upgraded and made the two sites of the proposed medical college.
- The project is being implemented at a total cost of Rs 998.30 crore, covering an area of 62 bighas (over 20 acres), The Kalapahar campus of the new medical college will have 480 beds, 46 ICUs, seven high-tech operation theatres and accommodation facility for 450 students and 100 interns. The college will provide admission to 100 MBBS students annually.On the other hand, the MMCH campus will have 800 beds, 100 ICUs, state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities, a dialysis unit and 11 OTs among others.
